The Depository Trust & Clearing Corporation (DTCC), which provides infrastructure services to financial markets across the globe, has released the results of a new study indicating that the distributed ledger technology (DLT) first popularized by bitcoin is capable of supporting the average daily trading volumes in the U.S. equity market: more than 100 million trades per day. And it also noted that the study should only be used as a test of basic functionality. More tests will be needed to determined whether DLT can meet the other requirements of DTCC's current systems, like resiliency, security, and regulation.
