Zongzi
CHICAGO, June 17(Xinhua) -- Lao Sze Chuan, the most recognized Chinese restaurant located on the Magnificent Mile in downtown Chicago, offered
Zongzi
, a kind ofrice dumpling
on Sundan to mark traditional Chinese Dragon Boat Festival.
rice dumplings
、
sticky rice dumplings
International students in eastern Jiangsu Province tried their hands on making
rice pudding
, known as Zongzi along with their Chinese teachers ahead of the traditional festival which is said to remember Chinese poet Qu Yuan(340-278BC).
Zongzi, rice dumplings, sticky rice dumplings, rice pudding.
Xinhua News
The restaurant offered Zongzi in two tastes: the big ones have yolk and pork wrapped in with
glutinous rice
; while the small ones are sweet with dates and beans.该饭店提供两种口味的粽子(offer Zongzi in two tastes),一种是大粽子,把蛋黄和猪肉包进糯米里(have yolk and pork wrapped in with glutinous rice);另一种是小粽子,它的味道是甜的,里面放着枣和豆子(the small ones are sweet with dates and beans)。
have yolk and pork wrapped in 是 have sth done 的形式,“使某事被(别人)做”;glutinous rice 指“糯米”,也可以用"sticky rice"、"sweet rice"来替换;date 在这里是熟词僻义,指“小枣”。
With two bamboo leaves in hand, it takes a while for William Hennessy to learn how to fold them into a cone where glutinous rice and other fillings can be stuffed without leakage. Tying up in the final stage also took him some time, as the Zongzi he made frequently came loose.
(With two bamboo leaves in hand),把它们折成圆锥体(fold them into a cone),再把糯米和其他馅料(fillings)填进去(stuff),注意不要漏出来(without leakage)。最后(in the final stage),包好(tie up),注意不要让叶子松掉(come loose).
The fillings used for zongzi also vary from region to region.
With two bamboo leaves in hand, you should fold them into a cone where glutinous rice and other fillings can be stuffed without leakage. In the final stage, you should tie up, but be careful - don"t let Zongzi come loose.
粽子节在每年农历的五月五,表示农历的日子,只需要在日期后面加上"of the lunar calendar"或"of the traditional Chinese calendar"(来自Wikipedia)就可以了,也可以用介词on/in,我们看 Xinhua News 的报道:
On every fifth of May on Lunar Calendar
, Chinese will eat Zongzi tocommemorate the death of Qu Yuan
, a famous Chinese poet as well as a patriotic living during the Warring States period.on every fifth of May on Lunar Calendar
commemorate the death of Qu Yuan, 纪念屈原之死,也可以用 remember 来表示:remember the death of Qu Yuan.
People in China
have joined in celebrations for
the Dragon Boat Festival which willbe marked on
June 18.join in celebrations for 是“庆祝”的意思,可以替换 celebrate.
节日+be marked on+日期
节日”,也可以用be observed on
Zongzi, also known as rice dumplings, is a traditional Chinese food eaten during the Dragon Boat Festival which
falls on
the fifth day of the fifth month in the Chinese lunar calendar. This year, the festivitiesfall on
June 18.
文中连用两个 fall on 显得重复,把其中一个改成"be observed/marked on"更好一些。
of the lunar calendar"或"of the traditional Chinese calendar"来表示,也可以把介词换成on/in.
节日 be marked on 日期
节日 be observed on 日期。
